Hostmonster hosting - a host monster?
February 29, 2008
I thought I should update things on how this new site is coping with traffic since we are using a shared host like hostmonster. The simple answer is it is going very well.
We are having about 3 visitors per day and at that level the server seems to be handling things very well indeed.
I’d thoroughly recommend hostmonster.com for a no traffic site like spam-spam.com for the following reasons.
- if you get no traffic, your hosting may as well be cheap.
OK, I’m being silly forget this list and I’ll give you the real reasons I host with Hostmonster
Why I really host with Hostmonster.comK
- if you get no traffic, your hosting may as well be cheap.
- because Hostmonster is stable and has worked very well
- because Hostmonster offers a secure (https) control panel
- because Hostmonster offers SSH access and sFTP
- because Hostmonster offers unlimited domains
- because Hostmonster has a great and generous affiliate scheme
One of the main things, which I mentioned above is that Hostmonster offers the secure control panel. While it is via a shared certificate, at least I can be sure that no one is snooping on my password.
But I also like the fact that Hostmonster hosting offers SSH access. This means accessing the server from the Linux command line - this may sound a bit scary but generally only requires you to learn a few commands. I use the excellent PuTTY which is simple to install and gets you going in a few minutes.
But SSH access also means that you can use Secure or sFTP. This is much better than the old FTP which transmits your password as clear text.
Maybe I’ll be changing at some stage in the future to a host other than Hostmonster web hosting, but for now, in the development stages of my web site, I find it to be an extremely well featured, cheap web hosting which is suiting me down to the ground.
